Olympic Peninsula

We just returned from a great trip to the Olympic Peninsula. We were able to see both the Hoh Rainforest and the Pacific coast all in one trip, crossing both of our list of things to do before leaving Seattle.

After catching the Edmonds/Kingston ferry early Monday morning, we arrived at the Hoh Rainforest Visitor Center around 10:00AM.  We got our permit and started hiking by 10:30AM.

We hiked in 5 miles to our destination and found a great campsite right on the Hoh River, and passed some pretty large trees along the way.

We hung out at our campground all evening enjoying the mostly clear skies and beautiful scenery.  The next morning we woke up to find slightly cloudy skies, but nice enough to make breakfast, pack up all our stuff, and have a leisurely hike back to the visitor center.

Now back in the car, we drove over to Mora campground, which is just inland of the Pacific Coast.  We grabbed a good campground, made some lunch, set up our tent, and then went down to Rialto Beach.  The tide was coming in quickly, but that did not stop us from walking along the beach and enjoying all the driftwood piled up.

The next morning we woke up to rain, and decided to pack up quickly and leave without time to make any breakfast.  With the help of a quick call home, we found a good breakfast spot in Port Angeles and made the hour drive towards civilization (and away from all the vampires...).  From P.A. it was an easy drive back to Seattle.
