Uncle Johnny's

We left Nashville Friday morning after a fun two days with Ben, Miriam, the dragon and the dogs.

This weekend we've been staying at Uncle Johnny's Nolichucky Hostel (thanks for the recommendation, Mark G!!) in eastern Tennessee on the Appalachian Trail. The place has lots of character, as do the employees - Uncle Johnny himself, Grim, and Sarge.

When we arrived on Friday (after a quick stop in Knoxville for some decent Lebanese food) we settled into our cabin and took a refreshing dip in the Nolichucky river. That evening we met some other nice people staying at the hostel.

Our cabin on the right half.

Saturday morning we headed south on the AT from the hostel.  It was steep at first, but nothing compared to the Cascades.  It was hot and we had to stop often to rest, but we ended up having a good 7 mile hike.  Saturday afternoon we hung out around the hostel and relaxed, including another swim in the river.

Sunday morning we are heading south to Asheville, NC, with a stop at some waterfalls off the Blue Ridge Parkway.  Then we will head east to Charlotte!

As usual, check out the rest of our photos here:
